National Cadet Corps (NCC)

Army/Naval Wings – The four cardinals of NCC are: Obey with smile, be punctual, work hard without fuss and make no excuses & tell no lies.

The main aims of NCC are:
-To develop character and ideals of selfless service among youth
-To create a human resource of organized, trained and motivated youth and to prepare them for regular commission in army and navy.

As per NCC rules, a cadet is required to attend at-least one camp for one unit each year and undergo regular parades of 65 hours or 96/120 periods and 32/40 parades during the academic session.

NCC Army Wing

The NCC Army Wing of the College has been a matter of pride as its has decorated the institution with laurels year after year. A total of 94 cadets enrolled themselves in the Army wing in the session 2014-15.

Achievements:

- TSC (Thal Sainik Camp) was held at NCC Academy Ropar from August 1 to 12, 2014 and Aug 15-26, 2014.Cadet Deepak Kumar of  BA(Ist) & UO Sachin Kumar of B.Sc (Ist) attended Pre-TSC Camp.

-8 cadets attended Army Attachment Camp with 16 Rajput which was held at Western Command, Chandimandir from November 1-15, 2014. Cdt Harmanjot Singh was selected as Best Cadet.

-Trek Camp was held at Maharashtra in which 2 cadets were selected to attend the next level camp from Dec. 3-12, 2014 they were UO Vikas Ghalawat & Cdt Deepak Kumar. UO Bhupinder Singh was the only cadet selected to Youth Exchange Programme(YEP) going to held at Kazakistan.

- National Integration Camp (NIP); was attended by UO Amarnath & UO Prateek Kumar Panda as Directorate Senior, held at Madampadalam, Tamil Nadu from October 8-22, 2014. They secured Second Place all over India in Volley Ball competition.

-5 cadets of our college attended the NIC-II held at Ropar from January 6-17, 2015 in which Punjab Directorate took lead in Volley Ball competition, tug of war & NIAP competition all over India.

-Pre RD camp was held from December 1-15, 2014 and December 16-27, 2014 in which 2 cadets Cdt Amit Kumar & UO Bhupinder Singh(BA-I) were selected for Republic Day Camp.

- Republic Day Camp was held in New Delhi and UO Bhupinder Singh was selected for this Camp after Rigorous training in DCAT-I and DCAT-II camp. He participated in PM Rally and made Punjab proud by winning Rally Competition and was also honored by Governor of Haryana.

Major AS Chahal (Deptt of Chemistry) always takes initiative in supporting the cadets for bringing laurels to the institution for the past 18 years.

 

NCC Naval Wing

Achievements:

-35 cadets were enrolled in the Naval Wing of NCC, during the session 2014-15.

-16 cadets attended ATC Camp held at Naval Unit, NCC, CCET Hostel No. 2 Sector 26 Chandigarhfrom September 18-27, 2014

-4 cadets of the Wing attended Pre NSC-1 Nausainik Camp held at Ropar from December 1-10, 2014.

- 3 Cadets attended AINSC Camp held at Karwar Andhra Pradesh from December 21, 2014 to January 1, 2015

-2 cadets from the wind attended NIC camp hld at Guntar, andhra Pradesh from January 8-22, 2015.

-Cadets of NCC Naval Wing also attended Republic Day Parade held at Chandigarh.

NCC Naval Wing of the College is working under supervision of Prof. Surjit Singh(Deptt. of Commerce)

 

National Service Scheme (NSS)

Guided by the motto, ‘Not Me But You’ NSS volunteers uphold the tradition of selfless service towards the resurrection of society. Two units of National Services Scheme of 100 students each have been allotted to this college. Students of all streams are encouraged to join NSS. Volunteers are required to work for 120 hours in one academic session for national reconstruction and personality development programmes. Volunteers attending the 7 days regular camp are awarded certificates carrying weightage for seeking admission to higher academic programmes and jobs.

The college has two NSS Units. Various programmes were organized by the units through the academic session 2014-15.

-A Special 7 days NSS camp: The Theme of this Camp was “Healthy Youth for Healthy India” which was held from January 4-10, 2015
-Various activities were conducted during the 7 days camp:
-Tree plantation drive
-Visit to the adopted village Saketri to create awareness about various ways and means of sustainable development. Volunteers  also encouraged Villagers to keep their surroundings neat and clean.

-A free Eye check up and Sugar Testing camp was organized by volunteers at saketri Village in association with Grewal Eye Institute. more than 200 patients were examined at the Camp.

-Visit to Institute for Blind, Sector 26 Chandigarh to interact with students to know their problems and life ways.

-Seminar on Road safety awareness by Chief Traffic Marshal Sh C S Grewal, Chandigarh Traffic Police personnel and other traffic marshals.

The camp Concluded with a valedictory function in the presence of Col.(retd) J S Bala, Secretary S.E.S and Prof. S.S. Dhillon.

 -Sardar Kapoor Singh Memorial Blood Donation Camp was organised by NSS unit and Red Ribbon Club of the College in Collaborations with Department of Transfusion Medicine, PGIMER and State Blood Transfusion Council, UT, Chandigarh, Wherein 150 Units of Blood were donated to the occasion of International Youth Day on August 12, 2014.

-WorkShop: Pardeep Singh & Rishi Kumar of BA-I and Rahul & Rohit of BA-II attended a two day residential workshop on Harmony, Equality, Diversity, Pluralism & Women Empowerment held on August 30-31, 2014 at DIT Memorial Resources Center, Queens Road, Amritsat, Punjab organised by Manav Charities, an NGO.

-NSS Mega Camp: Neha Poddar of M.Sc Microbial Biotechnology and Hardeep Singh of B.Sc II participated in NSS Mega Camp 2014 from Sept. 5-16, 2014 at Jain Vishva Bharti Institute Ladnun(Rajasthan).

Adventure Camp: Pardeep Singh of BA-I and Jatinderpal Singh of B.SC-II attended an adventure camp at Narkanda from September 24 to October 3 2014 organized by Atal Bihari Vajpayee institute of Mountaineering & Allied Spoerts, Manali, Himachal Pradesh.

-Swachh Bharat Abhiyan: NSS unitmembers and other college students were administered Cleanliness Oath on October 2, 2014 and marked the start of Clean India Campaign in college campus.

 -Twenty Five NSS volunteers along with programme officer participated in State Level Republic Day Parade 2015 organised by the Chandigarh Administration on January 26, 2015 in Local Parade Ground as a separate unit.
